COMMITMENT: WHY YOU STAY ON THE GAS
10 min · Full library · written lesson, video in production
After this lesson you understand the single decision that prevents most drift crashes: once the car is sideways, your instinct to lift or brake is the thing that puts you in the wall, and the sim is where you rewire it.
The Technique
- Set the scene, because it happens to everyone: you throw in too hard, too fast, into a corner with no run-off. The car is at big angle, the wall is coming, and every survival instinct in your body screams to lift, brake, or grab the handbrake.
- Here is what actually happens if you obey that instinct. You are mid-drift, counter-steering - your front wheels are pointed at the outside of the corner. Lift or brake and the weight slams forward, the rear tyres grip up, and the car stops sliding and drives - hard - exactly where the fronts point. Which is off the outside of the corner, into the wall, with the brakes doing nothing that matters.
- Now the counter-intuitive truth: stay on the gas. Keeping the rear wheels spinning keeps the car sliding, and a sliding car is scrubbing speed the whole time while it rotates around the corner. The worst realistic outcome is that you over-rotate and spin - and the car winds up stopped in the middle of the corner, pointing the wrong way, embarrassed and untouched.
The second half of the technique, the common mistakes, the drill and the safety non-negotiables open when you book a trip that runs drifting. Your booking unlocks this whole library.
