FLOW: PUMPING, CARRYING SPEED & LINKING LAPS
10 min · Full library · written lesson, video in production
The point
After this lesson you generate speed without pedalling - pumping rollers and berm exits, unweighting the chatter, and linking a whole trail as one movement instead of forty separate features.

The Technique
- Flow is not a feeling, it is a skill with a mechanic underneath: you push the bike into the down sides of terrain and lighten it over the up sides. Every roller is a free pedal stroke if your timing is right, and a brake tap if it is wrong.
- The pump itself: arms and legs compress as the front wheel crests the roller, then drive the bike down the backside - push with your whole body, through flat feet, finishing the push as the terrain falls away. Done right you feel the bike accelerate out of your hands.
