POWDER TECHNIQUE: FLOAT & FLOW
13 min · Full library · written from fifteen years in the terrain
The point
After this lesson you can ride deep snow with rhythm and float, instead of fighting it with stiff legs and a backseat stance until your thighs give out.

The Technique
- Speed is flotation. Most powder struggles are just riding too slowly. Pick a pitch steep enough to keep you moving and commit to it.
- Weight stays centred, not back. On modern wide skis and boards, sitting back is a myth that burns your legs. Stand tall in the middle of the gear and let the tools plane.
- Skiers: narrow the stance slightly and weight both skis more evenly than on piste, so they act as one platform instead of two separate ones.
Still under the glass
- 3 more technique steps
