BACKFLIP PROGRESSION: STEP BY STEP
14 min · Full library · written from fifteen years in the terrain
After this lesson you know the complete staged pathway to a wake-launched backflip - what each stage proves before the next - and the exact mechanics of approach, pop, rotation and landing you will execute under a coach.
The Technique
- Respect the trick. The wake backflip is the defining freestyle invert: higher speed and consequence than the sub-flip, and the gateway to everything after it. The progression exists because skipping stages is how this trick hurts people.
- Prerequisites, stated plainly: consistent controlled airs, a clean sub-flip, rehearsed bail-outs, and sign-off from your in-person coach. This lesson assumes all four.
- The approach. A clean, steep launch face - your own wake or reliable chop - hit square at moderate committed speed. Square matters: angle turns a flip into an accidental off-axis spin.
- 3 more technique steps
- The 3 mistakes that undo it, with fixes
- The drill that builds the reflex
- The safety non-negotiables
It opens when you book a trip that runs freestyle jet ski - these are the exact drills you run with your coach out there. Your booking unlocks this whole library.
