DOUBLE BACKFLIP: PREPARATION & SAFETY
11 min · Full library · written from fifteen years in the terrain
After this lesson you understand what separates a double from a single backflip - amplitude, rotation rate and preparation infrastructure - and what an elite, safety-backed double program actually looks like.
The Technique
- Frame it truthfully. The double backflip is an elite, competition-tier trick attempted by a small number of riders with serious infrastructure. This lesson is education and preparation architecture - it is not a how-to for solo attempts, and the script says so plainly.
- The physics gap. A double needs either far more amplitude, a faster rotation, or both. That means bigger launch faces, higher commitment speeds and a takeoff that trades safety margin for rotation - which is exactly why the support systems below are non-optional.
- Rotation management. The first flip is set at takeoff; the second is bought with a held tight tuck and, critically, the discipline not to open early. Spotting happens late by single-flip standards. Confirm with the pro how they describe the count and the visual cues.
