MOUNTAIN BIKE · Intermediate
CORNERING: RAIL EVERY BERM
12 min · Full library · written from fifteen years in the terrain
The point
After this lesson you can carry speed through a berm with the bike leaned, both tyres loaded, and exit faster than you entered.
Half the answer, free
The Technique
- All braking done before the berm. A berm rewards commitment and punishes hesitation.
- Enter wide. Eyes turn first and look through to the exit.
- Drop into the ready position: chest low, elbows out, level pedals.
- Lean with the berm. The banked face is your ground now, so bike and body lean together, unlike a flat corner.
Still under the glass
- 3 more technique steps
- The 3 mistakes that undo it, with fixes
- The drill that builds the reflex
- The safety non-negotiables
