DROPS & SENDERS: FLAT DROPS, HIPS & STEPDOWNS
11 min · Full library · written lesson, video in production
The point
After this lesson you can read and ride the freeride drop family - flat drops, stepdowns, hips and senders - matching speed and pop to what the landing asks for.

The Technique
- Trail drops taught you the basics; freeride drops add consequence and variety. The families: stepdowns (jump-to-lower-landing, friendliest), hips (direction change in the air), flat drops (the landing does not slope away - impact management), and senders (big, fast, committed versions of all three).
- The universal mechanic stays what it was: level bike in the air comes from timing your weight shift with the front wheel leaving the edge - dead-sailor front-wheel drops come from doing nothing, bucked drops from doing it early. Speed replaces pop as drops grow; big drops are ridden fast and neutral.
