POWDER LEGS: SQUAT ENDURANCE THAT LASTS ALL DAY
10 min · Full library · written from fifteen years in the terrain
The point
A powder day is hundreds of squat reps in bottomless resistance, so train squat endurance and eccentric control, not one-rep strength.

The Technique
- Tempo goblet squats, three sets of twelve with a three-second lower. Riding is mostly braking with your legs - the slow lower trains exactly that eccentric control.
- Wall sits, three rounds, building from 30 seconds toward 90 over the six weeks. Long descents are an isometric quad problem, and the burn tolerance transfers directly.
- Rear-foot-elevated split squats, three sets of eight each side. Snow never loads you evenly - single-leg strength is what handles the uneven landings and offset turns.
Still under the glass
- 3 more technique steps
- The 3 mistakes that undo it, with fixes
- The drill that builds the reflex
- The safety non-negotiables
