CARDIO BASE FOR ALTITUDE & DEEP SNOW

The point
An aerobic base is what lets you recover between runs and dig without blowing up, and you build it with mostly easy work.
Half the answer, free
The Technique
- Two sessions a week of easy aerobic work, 30-45 minutes at a pace where you can hold a conversation. This talk-test pace is the base - it feels too easy, and that is correct.
- One session a week of hill or stair intervals: eight to ten efforts of 45-60 seconds hard, with equal easy recovery. Deep snow days are repeated bursts - digging out a sled, bootpacking a ridge, wrestling a bike upright - and this is that shape.
- Swap one easy session for a hilly 40-minute walk wearing a loaded backpack. Riding days are done in gear, so train carrying weight.
Still under the glass
