10 min · Full library · written from fifteen years in the terrain
The point
After this lesson you can ride sand with the front wheel light and find the speed where corrugations smooth out.

The Technique
- Sand wants your front wheel. Keep it light: weight back, steady or building throttle. Drive lifts the front; hesitation buries it.
- Momentum is your friend. Slowing down mid-sand is how the sand swallows you.
- Look far ahead and let the bike wander. Correct with throttle and peg weighting, not the bars.
- Deep sand: a gear higher than instinct, steady revs, clutch ready to keep the drive alive.
