360 DROPS: SPINNING OFF THE EDGE
11 min · Full library · written lesson, video in production
After this lesson you understand the elite-competition version of the spin - the 360 off a drop - where the rotation must be generated without a lip, the spot happens below you, and the margin lives entirely in preparation.
The Technique
- The 360 drop is a current elite-comp staple for one reason: it is harder than it looks, and judges know it. A jump gives you a lip to carve; a drop gives you an edge and nothing else - every degree of rotation must be created on a flat take-off with the landing out of sight below.
- Prerequisites are non-negotiable and this lesson assumes them: dialled 360s on jumps (previous lesson, ten-in-a-row standard), comfortable drops of the target size, and trampoline rotation so grooved the spin needs no thought - because all your thought will be on the edge timing.
- How elite riders create rotation with no lip, and the downward spot that must be retrained first
- 5 more technique steps
- The 2 mistakes that undo it, with fixes
- The drill that builds the reflex
- The safety non-negotiables
