CARVING: EDGE-TO-EDGE TRANSFERS
11 min · Full library · written from fifteen years in the terrain
After this lesson you can lay the bike over into a genuine carve, hold it against the track's edge, and link turns edge to edge with rhythm - the move that makes snowbiking feel like surfing.
The Technique
- A snowbike carves when the bike is leant over far enough that the track's edge cuts and holds. The bike will lean much further than dirt instinct allows, because the snow supports it. Trust is the first technique.
- Initiate from the outside peg... and here schools differ: some teach driving the inside peg to drop the bike in, others weight the outside peg through the carve like a flat-track turn. We film the convention our reviewing pros agree on - flag your call.
- Body stays upright while the bike leans beneath you, like a snowboarder's counter-lean. Hips over the bike, shoulders level, head vertical. Laying your body down with the bike ends the carve in a lowside.
- 3 more technique steps
- The 3 mistakes that undo it, with fixes
- The drill that builds the reflex
- The safety non-negotiables
