DEEP POWDER: MOMENTUM & LINE CHOICE
10 min · Full library · written from fifteen years in the terrain
The point
After this lesson you can link lines through genuinely deep snow using momentum banking and route reading, instead of riding hole to hole and digging between them.

The Technique
- Deep powder rewrites the map: flat ground becomes the hardest terrain because there is nothing to push against, and slopes become your fuel. Plan lines that bank momentum - descend to gain it, spend it climbing, never arrive anywhere flat and deep with an empty tank.
- Read the line in whole sentences, not words: entry, the shape through the terrain, and the exit, before committing. Mid-line improvisation in bottomless snow is how bikes end up buried in the one spot with no run-out.
- Keep the ski light: slightly back on the pegs, steady drive, letting the front float and plane. A knifing ski in deep snow is the front-wheel tuck of snowbiking.
