INJURY-PROOFING: THE FIVE THAT END TRIPS EARLY
9 min · Full library · written from fifteen years in the terrain
The same five injury patterns show up across every sport we run - knees, ankles, shoulders, wrists and lower back - and each has cheap prep work that stacks the odds your way.
The Technique
- Knees: single-leg strength plus landing control. Step-downs and split squats you already have; add hop-and-stick - hop forward, land on one leg, hold the landing dead still for three seconds - three sets of five each side.
- Ankles: single-leg balance, eyes open then closed, 30 seconds each, plus calf raises three sets of fifteen. Boring, portable, and the difference between a rolled ankle and a story.
- Shoulders: band external rotations and pull-aparts, two sets of fifteen, plus push-up-plus reps for the shoulder blade. Crash-tolerant shoulders are strong through their full range, not just at the front.
